I have been working on this one all week. Just finished a little while ago. This one is acrylic on board. 3"x5". I love the farm scenes- they're such a calm and "summer" thing.

Traditional Miniature Paintings

A traditional miniature painting is defined by both size and technic. A true miniature is 25 square inches or less, and is highly detailed, able to withstand magnification and still look good, and generally the subject should be 1/6th scale or smaller. The origins of miniatures are ancient- originally illuminations in handwritten/made books, and later the beautiful miniature portraits that were carried and cherished by people before there was photography. True miniatures are tiny jewels of the artworld.

I want to have a drive to this place Carol - this is just the kind of countryside I love. I love how the background disappears into a hazy / misty horizon, and the beautiful colours you have used!!! Perfect!!!

Karen, These are my kind of scenes as well- I love to drive through the countryside and just enjoy. I've come to love farm country scenery better than anything else- mountains, ocean, etc. They say "home" to me, and family. The day I took these shots it was a very hot and steamy day. Even mistier than I've painted it!
beautifully done Carol, and I agree with Karen the hazy background is terrific. Looks so peaceful there!
I love these places too. I grew up in a small town surrounded with areas like this all around. It's one of the things I DO like about living here. Lots of working small farms. You did this beautifully, Carol!

Thanks Tracy and Barbara. I'm hoping I can get out in a month or so and go "farm shooting" again in a new area. I do have lots of photos, but can one ever have "enough" reference?! :-)
