Another Thursday!

Another chilly day outside and looking like rain. No gardening today. I'll be painting- I love rainy days for that- makes me feel all cozy inside my studio. Started a new piece yesterday but no photos for you. I'll post something else just to give you something to look at! This is one of my earlier pieces, done in gouache. I love wolves and never tire of painting them.

Duckling WIP

Spring must have arrived- I seem to be into doing young and baby animals! I thought you might enjoy seeing another WIP. I didn't think to take many photos- I get painting and forget everything else, but you can at least see a bit of "before and after"...
The actual piece is 1.62"x1.62", he's very tiny. The post of him finished is fairly close to correct size.

I've been working out in the garden when possible- it's still awfully chilly here most of the time, then HOT, then back to cold! I also repotted alot of indoor plants- just in the mood to work in the dirt I guess! I have alot of houseplants, some of my favorites are violets. So easy. And flowers all winter. :-)

Off to the studio...

Finished calf, onward and upward!!!

Well, here is the second WIP photo along with the finished piece. He was alot of fun to do and I enjoyed having that little face looking back at me! I keep forgetting to photograph with the penny- this little guy is 3"x 4.5" in size- and that penny really helps put it in perspective.
I've started on a new piece, and I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow. It's quite a bit smaller, but it's a "fuzzy" fellow so difficult to achieve what I'm after. He's past his "ugly" stage and actually looking fairly good. Now that I've said that I hope he turns out!!! You never know- I might drop the paint brush and ruin the whole thing! :-)
The weather has been gorgeous today- downright hot! I did manage to get out and do a bit of weeding and clean up in my iris bed. Poor iris- had a terrible infestation of borer last year, surprised any are left. I suppose I'll have them again this year. I have back issues so I can't just dig them up and clean them all out. So either they'll sink or swim on their own I guess. But I do so love iris- I hope they swim!

Couple of calves and a WIP

I thought you might enjoy seeing one of my paintings being created. I may do this now and then just for fun.

These were some of the calves I was lucky enough to see nearly 2 yrs. ago on a trip to Montana. You would think it would be easy to find and photograph something as "common" as cattle, but it's not so easy these days! I just love those little calf faces. They are soooo innocent - and sooooo curious!

The brown one is a WIP. I hope you enjoy seeing him as he is created. The red one was my first miniature calf. I tried a couple of different backgrounds with him until I found the one I preferred.

Happy Easter!!!

No painting today! Spent quite awhile yesterday in the studio and will try and post the latest later this week. We will be doing the "family thing" all day today, first with my parents (this may be my last Easter with my mom knowing who we are as she has alzheimers which is quickly progressing) and then to my husband's family gathering at his sisters. Poor studio buddies can't come this time!!!
Hope you all have a wonderful day. The day is "sun-shiny" here. :-)

My Studio Buddies!

These are my "studio buddies"! They keep me company all day when I'm in my studio- they love going down there (it always means a treat and maybe even a "chewie"!) I had planned to show you another aspect of my "artists life" but I can't find the photo at the moment so it will have to wait for another day!
These guys are soooo funny, each one has his or her own personality, they are such individuals. I teach piano lessons and they love the students. More attention!
I hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend and that the weather is beautiful for all those Easter egg hunts!

Another Thurs., my favorite day!

No piano lessons and I'm free to paint all day! I just sent off 2 boxes of paintings to galleries for miniature shows. Have a little elk calf nearing completion. Just need to do the last "fix-it's" and he'll be ready to frame. I haven't decided my next piece yet. That will happen today, I'll have to see what inspires me!

The weather has finally gotten nicer and I am looking forward to my summer flowers. I actually enjoy winter and love "blizzardy" days- make me feel cozy in my studio. But I'm ready for some sun, some green grass, and lots of flowers!
I had intended to post a few of my illustrations that I've done for an atlas for a local Indian tribe here in Minnesota, but once again my blog is doing it's own thing. I did manage to get the toad to post, but then it decided it would post the scratch pieces. Rather than not post something for you to hopefully enjoy I decided to just leave them! I do love the scratch art, but it is very hard on my wrists! (Carpal tunnel).
Well, I'm off for a day in the studio. Have a great day!
