Finished swan, and my student's first piece.

I completed the swan this afternoon. Just had touches left to do. I am definitely getting a bit "senile"- I could have sworn I had taken a photo in progress between this and the water- went to post it this weekend- no photo. Too late then. Had it so near completion you probably wouldn't have seen the difference! Ah, well....

I have been mentoring a young piano student of mine who I find to be a true sweetheart. She has always loved my paintings- even bought a small print once for her father's birthday. I believe she is 13 now and not a bit of the normal "know-it-all" teenager do I ever see. Just very enjoyable to spend time with. Anyway, I offered to teach her to paint and she has graciously let me post her first completed piece. It is a mini ofcourse, not tiny, tiny, but still in the correct size limits other than I'd have to see if the 1/6th rule was perhaps not quite on. She just finished it this evening. Hope you enjoy seeing her work. Maybe we'll have another new miniature painter! :-)

Your latest mini is just gorgeous Carol, and I think Jaci is a great artist too! Perhaps she like to try for the best young artist award, or maybe an MASF scholarship?

Carol - Your swan is divine - these are the kind of minis that inspired me to get into miniature art. Wow for your little student!!! How amazing to think she is only 13 - Must be the teacher!!! - what a future she has!!

Carol, how sweet! Your student did an excellent job! Good for her, nice job on the eye and the feathers on the head. She has nice light in the background too!

Love the swan that you did, Carol. It has such a serene feel to it. So soft looking!

Oh, what a lovely swan! Your detail of putting the green reflections of shoreline foliage that's "out of the frame" (as us photographers describe it) into the water is fantastic. And your student is very talented. It makes me want to raise my hand and plead, "Teach me next!"

Terrific work on your swan carol, a beautiful peice. What a little star you have painting with you! I hope she wants to do more - someone to lookout for in the future for sure!

Thanks to all of you- with that vertigo going on I just couldn't get in here to post my thanks. What a royal pain vertigo is!
Karen- I don't know why- but I thought you DID do minis. I love your work.
Mona- we're just taking this one step at a time- for now we're on a short break, then we'll start another one. There are times she is just overwhelmed with homework, etc. I don't know what the MASF scholarship is- I'll have to look into it.
Pat- you can come take lessons anytime! :-)
