Moms, Illustrations, and...

Today I thought I'd show you a few of my illustrations for an upcoming atlas I have been working on for quite awhile. It is being published by the Mdewakanton Sioux tribe and is of breeding birds and animals found on their reservation here in Minnesota. I am taking care of my mother for a few days who has alzheimers so I will be working on the last illustration for the book today. Yipppeeee!!!
:-) They still have to decide on what they want for a cover for the book. It will have my illustrations along with a page or so of information on each individual bird or animal. It has been an interesting project to do. Hope you enjoy seeing them.
I've been out of town on a family campout so I'm a bit behind and feeling rushed.
Lots to do this week, and little time for painting. :-(

Carol, incredible frogs! And the mouse! WOW! I'd like to draw like you. So, another adventure with the book cover! I'm glad your work and your art is so appreciated.

Many thanks as always, Italo. It gives me great pleasure that people enjoy my work. The atlas will also teach folks who are unfamiliar with animals and birds what they look like and what they are sharing their back yards with!

Thanks so much Karen. That toad was a real "bugger" to do! But once done he's one of my favorites. I started out with birds- I'll have to post a few of them I guess. I'll tell a bit more about the atlas when I do. The frog texture was a challenge, but was pleased once done. I've had to stretch myself learning to draw, which has been very good for me.

Carol these are lovely, and I'd love to see more too if you decide to post more. Are they done with pencil, and what is their size?

Thanks Barbara and Mona. They are graphite- mostly. I sometimes use black ink for the eyes and I think these 3 may all have that. I can't remember and am too tired to go look! I have some of them that were done pen and ink, others total graphite. They didn't care- it just had to be black and white.
I spent the day helping my dad stain his deck- bad back is yelling at me now! I also did finish the last bit on the last illustration, so time to celebrate- well assuming they like it! I've only had to rework one of the 100, and that was minor- poor reference so I didn't see something- easily fixed. Hopefully this one will pass muster and it will be a fait accompli!

Duh- I am tired! Forgot to finish answering your questions. They are done on Canson drawing paper and bristol. Now that I've discovered bristol I prefer that. The toad and frog are definitely on bristol. Again- too tired to go find the mouse to confirm the paper! Lazy girl! The paper size is 9" x 12", but my drawings were "whatever" size- however I happened to get them sketched out. So they all vary. I will post more over time- have to get some photographed- haven't photographed all of them. Suppose I should.

These are all wonderful Carol! Mona sent me the link to your website because I was asking her if she'd ever tried casein paints. I love your work. I'm going to sign up as a follower - wanted to let you know so you wouldn't think I was stalking you!!

Thank you Deb and Di. I really appreciate your taking time to let me know you enjoy my work. Deb, if I can answer any questions on the casein let me know. I haven't worked with it that long- but I love it- it's wonderful- and I can recommend a dealer with great prices too!

Sam- the toad was one of my favorites. :-) He was a "bugger" to do, but worth the effort.
